Levypyörä’s history dates back to 1955, when brothers Lauri and Reino Lementtinen began manufacturing wheels for horse-drawn vehicles in a garage in Järvelä, Kärkölä. The company was officially registered on November 25, 1955. In 1956, Levypyörä relocated to Nastola, where it continues to operate today
Levypyörä experienced steady growth from the 1960s to the 1980s. With the industrialization of agriculture, the company naturally transitioned from producing wheels for horse-drawn vehicles to manufacturing wheels for tractors and other agricultural machinery. In the late 1950s, Levypyörä expanded its product range to include mangles and storage equipment, which remained in production until the 1980s. Additionally, Levypyörä produced subcontracted parts, primarily serving Finnish customers.
In 1991, the majority of Levypyörä’s shares were sold to Weckman Steel Oy, a company based in Heinola. Despite this change, the Lementtinen family remained actively involved in the business. Throughout the 1990s, Levypyörä made significant investments to promote its wheels internationally. The company evolved from a supplier of subcontracted parts to a recognized supplier and partner of subassemblies for the mechanical engineering industry.
Inspired by the growth in exports, Levypyörä invested in production facilities and modernization during the 2000s. In recent years, the company has automated its production by transferring the heaviest operations to robots. From the start, in-house product design has been crucial in ensuring that Levypyörä’s products are high-quality and cost-effective.
Today Levypyörä’s wheels are sold globally, while its steel structure services primarily cater to domestic markets.
Since August 1, 2019, Levypyörä has been part of Nokian Heavy Tyres, a division of Nokian Tyres.
